KEY NOTE: ALLNEX MARKET TRENDS AND FIGURES PACKAGING PRINTING
Eileen Weber, Allnex
Market Trends in Printing and Energy Curable Solutions
The printing and packaging markets are rapidly evolving and as such the materials used in formulating inks and coatings for these markets must also evolve. This presentation will briefly touch on some of the key trends within this market space and how specifically energy curable can support these trends with innovative solutions.
Eileen Weber – Speaker Bio
Eileen Weber is Global Marketing Manager at allnex, a leading global producer of resins, additives and crosslinkers. With specific focus on the packaging coatings and inks market within Radcure Business Unit, Eileen has been at allnex since 2019. She has more than 20 years in the UV/EB industry starting her career at Red Spot Paint & Varnish, Co., Inc. in Evansville, Indiana, USA in 1998. Eileen serves on the board of directors for RadTech North America, where she is the immediate past president.
KEY NOTE: THE CHALLENGE OF PRINTED ELECTRONICS AND UV-CURABLE INKS
Philip Hölzl, Elantas
The challenge of printed electronics and UV-curable inks
Abstract: What exactly does "printed electronics" mean and where can such applications already be found on the market today? How advanced is the technology and why is the screen printing process so often used instead of offset, flexo or gravure printing? What possibilities do the UV-curing systems from ELANTAS Europe offer for efficient print production?
DIGITAL LAQUER EMBOSSING (DLE) BY HYMMEN
Michael Hesse, Hymmen
Outstanding Surfaces through Digital Lacquer Embossing by Hymmen
Digital printing will play a crucial role in the future of furniture and flooring as it enables unlimited design flexibility and can be applied to a wide range of materials. This facilitates faster response times to market demands and trends while reducing material waste. The combination of reduced process costs and market differentiation is driving the significance of digital printing technology within furniture and flooring production.
As no high-end surface sells without positive haptic experience, the digitally printed décor must go along with a matching structure. All advantages of digital printing are secured by the Digital Lacquer Embossing (DLE and DLEplus) technology by Hymmen. It delivers unprecedented levels of highly realistic optics and haptics and won the Interzum award in 2019.
Michael Hesse from Hymmen will give an insight into how this patented, innovative technology achieves these convincing results. He will also explain the advantages of the technology. Some pictures of product samples will underline the attractivity of DLE and DLE plus for the furniture and flooring industry as it opens completely new design options for surfaces.
Michael Hesse, Head of Sales
After economic studies start of the career in HR recruitment within the IT industry. For 20 years different sales and marketing positions with plant engineering companies, thereof 14 years in the field of surface finishing equipment with Hymmen. Mr. Hesse is leading the worldwide sales activities of the Hymmen Sales Team for the entire product portfolio incl. digital printing, finishing lines and Double Belt Presses / Multi Opening – Pressing plants.
UVC PLUS FOR PRINT APPLICATIONS
Dr. Jutta Richter, Weilburger
UV-C curing – suitable for overprint application?
UV lacquer systems are very popular in the world of printing because, compared to dispersion coatings, UV lacquers “dry” extremely quickly, enable very high gloss levels and have a very good mechanical and chemical resistance. However, the chemicals legislation leads to stricter classification of the raw materials, especially the photoinitiators, which then have to be substituted. This inevitably leads to bottlenecks in raw material selection for formulation.
Therefore, it makes sense to test new curing technologies such as UV-C curing. The emission spectrum of theses new lamps contains a higher proportion of UV-C which is so rich in energy that theoretically a UV lacquer can also cure without a photoinitiator.
WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH carried out a feasibility study in cooperation with IST to check if this technology can also be used for overprint varnishes. This will be reported in the following lecture.
